Take part in a medieval experience that reinforces concepts of a medieval lifestyle through role play (feast, joust, court..).

The Banquet

At most Badge Camps / Weekends, we try to have a medieval-style banquet. Previous menus have included roast chicken, corn, gravy and potatoes in a hollowed-out bread bun, which is then eaten after the meal is over. Did you know that stale slices of bread would serve as plates at a normal dinner and that, instead of napkins, people would wipe their hands on a nearby dog?
Dress-up is essential, but beware of men in tights!

At the head of the table was the lord of the manor, who could be a knight, a nobleman, or even the king...

The Tournament

For a good jousting game, try here.
Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt hosts a jousting tournament and medieval village every two years. To celebrate the 900th official anniversary of the Order of St John on 15th February, 2013, some Youth members attended the Harcourt Park Tournament and met a Hospitaller from a local medieval re-enactment society. He let us try out his weaponry and armour and he told us all about the ancient Order of St John. It was an awesome way to celebrate!
