The Enrolment Ceremony is given to all Youth Members after joining St John. It promotes the Core Values of: Teamwork, Integrity, Professionalism, Empathy.
It also promotes the eight virtues of a St John Youth Member, namely: Sympathy, Humility, Gentleness, Peace, Compassion, Unselfishness, Truth, Endurance.
This Policy for leading an Enrolment Ceremony was provided by Mr Richard Hitchcock. It includes the order of ceremony and the Hymn of St John:
The St John Hymn is called 'The White Cross of St John' and is sung to the tune of O God, Our Help in Ages Past:
From ancient pilgrim hospital,Where love met human plight,To modern service to the sick,Restoring health and sight. [CHORUS] Beneath the banner of the Cross,The White Cross of St John,The healing work of Christ the Lord,Through time and change, goes on. Bless those we serve: the young, the aged,The injured and distressed; Our charge, to be swift messengers,Of love made manifest. Bless us who serve you day and night;Keep us within your care,Who go to tend a wounded world,In trauma, pain and fear. We vow to you the skills we bring:Our hands your hands must be;Our hearts your living heart of loveFor all humanity
